An operational amplifier designed in the early 1970s. It was one of the first integrated-circuit op amps and it was considered a breakthrough at the time. A number of 1970s-era vintage synths used it. However, it has inferior performance specs by modern standards, and the sound of vintage synths that employed it can often be improved by replacing the 741s with modern types. (A notable example is the ARP 2600.)
