Bassline, also known as bassline house or early on niche, is a style of UK garage which developed in northern England in the early 2000s. It is known for its unique, intricate, and exaggerated bassline, which is heavily modulated and shifts wildly in pitch along with its 4x4 beat, creating a pumping, hard-hitting drum loop that is easily danceable.

Characteristics[]

Bassline, being a genre that originated from speed garage, has adopted many of its same characteristics. Both have the same shuffled house drum beats, but bassline is even faster, sitting at about 140 as opposed to speed garage's 128 BPM. Its most distinct feature is its warped bass, which is heavily modulated with the use of LFOs. Vocals include pitched-up female R&B style singing and typically male MCs rapping very fast.
