Usually said of a signal containing both an AC and a DC component; the DC component is referrred to as the DC offset. Usually considered undesirable when present in audio signals, and many synths and other audio reproduction equipment have DC blocking capacitors in both their input and output circuitry. However, it has its uses in synthesis; for example, adding a negative DC offset to an LFO signal being used to create vibrato in a VCO will result in a vibrato that goes below but not above the base frequency, which simulates the way that singers add vibrato to their singing voices.
