The name adopted by the French duo Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, working mostly in the house genre. Originally formed in 1997 as an offshoot of a rock band that the two were members of, Daft Punk released four full studio albums, two live albums, and numerous singles, remixes, and videos. (The name "Daft Punk" was taken from a critics' review of that band.) They are known for appearing in public only in robot costumes, including helmets which completely cover their faces.

One notable project for the duo was the soundtrack to Tron: Legacy. For this soundtrack, the duo worked with an orchestra led by Los Angeles-based conductor Joseph Trapanese. The soundtrack combined orchestral and electronica elements. The due also appeared on screen as the DJs of the club contained within the virtual reality.

The group, which has been mostly inactive since 2016, officially disbanded in March 2021.
