A sub-genre of house, bearing some similarities to progressive house and trance. Deep house is more bassline-driven and relies less on drum sounds to set the tempo; the four on the floor beat is largely eschewed, with the dominant kick drum being replaced by more varied percussion elements, although still maintaining a 4/4 time. Tempos also tend to be somewhat slower than most other forms of house, usually in the 105-125 bpm range. Deep House songs usually follow a progressive song structure, with no drops; just long progressions over time. In contrast to the similar genres named above, deep house is usually vocal music, mostly using female vocals, sometimes with additional male vocal samples. When Caribbean elements are added, the result is known as tropical house.
