At the height of disco's popularity during the late 1970s, some artists such as Elton John, Boney M., and later in the 80s, Michael Jackson and Madonna used disco in a more commercial and pop-oriented way. Since then, disco has been a genre pop artists have been using sporatically. Unlike traditional disco, disco-pop downplays the funk and soul influences, and great importance is placed on the singer.
