Hybrid Dubstep is a sub-genre of Dubstep that combines elements of other styles of electronic music, such as trap, drum and bass (DnB), and sometimes even influences from house or hip hop, while retaining the fundamental characteristics of dubstep (wobble bass, growls, slow heavy rhythms and percussion).
Characteristics[]
It can contain basslines that are often more elaborate and varied than in other forms of dubstep. They can range from heavy, distorted bass to more subtle variations, often influenced by other genres (manly bass music) such as future bass or neurofunk. Many Hybrid Dubstep tracks feature trap-style rhythms, with fast percussion (notably triplet hi-hats) and distinctive drops, combined with the slower, heavier elements of traditional dubstep. Its structure can vary more than in other forms of dubstep. For example, after a classic drop, the track can evolve into faster or more melodic parts, like those found in DnB, glitch hop, or future bass.
Some Hybrid Dubstep tracks incorporate melodic lines that contrast with the heavy bass and complex rhythms. This can give a more emotional or atmospheric feel while retaining the raw energy of the genre. It often uses more textural sounds and effects, experimenting with distortion and more complex sound processing. It can include glitch elements, ethereal melodies, or robotic sounds.
