Hybrid Trap is an experimental subgenre of Trap EDM that emerged in the early 2010 as a more trappy and polyvalent version of Trapstep.
Characteristics[]
Hybrid Trap mixes elements of Trap (like its 808 kicks, Hi-Hats, hard-hitting sub-bass and its rhythm) with sound design of Brostep (growls, wobbles and LFOs). Over time, however, it became more diversified in terms of mixing genres such as hardstyle, future bass, D&B, etc..
Confusions[]
Hybrid Trap is often confused with Trapstep, its precursor, but has more Trap than Dubstep :
Trapstep :[]
- Dubstep-style musical structure drops, with Trap-style intro and a blend of elements from Trap and Brostep build-ups
- Simple bass modulation on 808s, but kicks can be powerful.
- Brostep elements take over from Trap elements.
- Robotic, energic and powerful.
Hybrid Trap :[]
- Trap-style musical structure.
- Sound Design borrowed from various genres such as Brostep or Hardstyle, and is omnipresent with granulate and metallic basslines.
- Can include Brostep wobble bass. And other elements from various genres, such as Breakbeats from Drum and Bass.
- Closer to traditional Hip-hop, and is more experimental, and can has various themes.
