Hyperpop is a subgenre of electronic pop that mixes various other genres, mainly EDM style genres, which emerged in the early 2010s.
History[]
Hyperpop was theoretically born in London in 2013, as Bubblegum Bass on the PC Music label. However, the term “hyperpop” we all know actually comes from the name of a Spotify playlist created in 2019. The genre becomes very popular in 2020 and 2021, thanks to social media, more specifically Tik Tok.[1]
Characteristics[]
Hyperpop is characterized by saturated synths, very high pitched vocals, powerful basslines, chaotic structures, a BPM that vary a lot and influences from pop, hip hop, hardcore, emo, electro, rock, and a lot more. The production style is centered on a maximalist approach and focuses on a highly compressed, highly polished sound.
