Jungle is the predecessor of drum and bass (DnB), which emerged in the early 90s from breakbeat hardcore. it's characterized by chaotic, energetic breakbeats, a tempo generally around 160 BPM, powerful basslines, and piano/synthesizer. Jungle developed from Breakbeat Hardcore, with producers experimenting with faster tempos, deeper basslines, and more complex songwriting. The most defining difference between jungle and DnB is its sample based production which is in stark difference to DnB's use of produced drum patterns.
It has influenced various genres, including:
- Drum and Bass
- Breakcore
- Speed Garage
- Dubstep
- Ghetto Tech
- Broken Beat
