A company which specializes in sequencer software, plug-in soft synths and effects, and digital audio and MIDI computer interfaces. MOTU pioneered the high-end MIDI interface combined with SMPTE time code synchronization in the 1990s. It has pretty much owned the high-end MIDI interface market since its main rival, Opcode Systems, collapsed in 1998. MOTU also pioneered the Firewire audio interface.
The name is an acronym for the company's rather awkward original name, Mark of the Unicorn, and the unicorn logo still appears on some of their products.
