Melodic dubstep is a subgenre of dubstep that has drops that focus on the melody, unlike brostep, which uses growls and harsh often non-melodic elements. Melodic Dubstep tends to use more ambient and atmospheric elements and is more related to dubstep and brostep in its tempo and drum structure rather than its sound design and general aesthetic. Like brostep, melodic dubstep has a snare on the 3rd beat, unlike riddim, which has a kick and a clap combined.

Drumstep variant is the same, but at faster tempo.
