In relation to electronic music in particular, a function of a synthesizer that controls the relative level of a specific signal in the left and right outputs of a synth having stereo outputs; some synths having stereo [[voltage controlled amplifier|VCAs]] allow for panning to be controlled by a control signal (see also [[ping-pong]]). Also refers to a [[MIDI]] [[Controller]] message, type 10, which causes the receiver to execute a pan function.
