Philly club is a style of House that developed in Philadelphia in the early 2000s, pioneered by producers like DJ DWizz, DJ RL and DJ Sega who were inspired by the growing popularity of Baltimore Club across the Eastern Seaboard. Similar to Baltimore club, the genre is based around a staccato and syncopated beat indebted to Miami Bass along with the occasional use of Breakbeat drum patterns and repetitive, chopped vocal samples. However, Philly club is typically faster, reaching up to 150 BPM, a trait it shares with the Jersey Club that was developing in Newark, New Jersey around the same time. The genre would also come to be set apart by influences from other styles of Electronic Dance Music, particularly sirens and detuned saw waves inspired by Hardstyle and Trap [EDM]. Despite the more widespread popularity of its Baltimore and Jersey club cousins, Philly club would maintain a lower profile and remained primarily a phenomenon of the local club scene, further developed by newer artists like Swizzymack in the early 2010s.
