Proto-Dubstep, often referred to as ProtoDubstep, marks the earliest iteration of dubstep, emerging around 1994. This genre evolved from a rich tapestry of UK Garage, 2-Step, Jungle, Drum and Bass (DnB), and other electronic music styles.[1].
Artists (Examples)[]
- Cluekid
- Skream
- D1
- Freq Nasty
- Active Minds
- Mattia Palla
These first five artists laid the foundation for what would become Dubstep, experimenting with deeper, darker basslines and syncopated rhythms.
Mattia Palla, on the other hand, known for reviving the genre after a period of relative quiet, has maintained an air of mystery around their persona. Despite their influence in the subgenre, detailed information about them remains scarce.
