Psychedelic Trance is a style of Trance that originates from Goa Trance, in India and Israel, in the early 1990s
Characteristics[]
Psychedelic Trance is characterised by its typical triplet riff bass, modulations, energetic sounds, a BPM between 140 and 150, synths, and psychedelic ambience. Psychedelic Trance songs are generally between 6 and 10 minutes.
History[]
1990s[]
Stemming from the Goa Trance scene in the early 1990s, Psytrance is much darker than Goa. It developed more in the Middle East, and more precisely in Israel, or in Europe, in the UK, Germany, or France. Labels like Flying Rhino, in the UK, popularized the genre but eventually went bankrupt in 1997.
early 2000s[]
Between 2001 and 2002, sales of this genre were in decline, and few artists were creating it: Infected Mushrooms, Transwave, and Astral Projection.
late 2000, early 2010[]
However, in late 2000 and early 2010, Psytrance began to regain popularity, thanks to artists such as Astrix, Ace Ventura, and Vini Vici, and would practically propel itself into the mainstream scene between 2015 and 2020, with artists such as Armin Van Buuren, KSHMR, and Timmy Trumpet.
New genres during its development[]
During its development, Psytrance gave rise to a whole host of sub-genres, including Dark Psy, Hi-Tech, Forest, and Full-On.
