Sound Transform Systems (STS), formed in 1993, is the successor to the original Serge Modular company created by Serge Tcherepnin in 1974. STS manufactures modular synthesis equipment in the Serge 4U format. The company arose when Tcherepin decided to get out of the synth manufacturing business in 1993. He handed the busines off to one of his associates, Rex Probe, and licensed the name and the existing designs to the new company.

STS offers traditional 17" panels (see the discussion of panel sizes in the Serge Modular article), which are called "Shop Panels", and "M-Class" panels which are hafl the width of the 17" panels. Two M-Class panels can be combined to form a 17" panel with an "M-Boat" joiner module. Many of the older Serge configurations such as the "Animal", "Red Voice", "Blue Voice" and TAKS (a 16-step analog sequencer with a 16-key capacative keyboard) are still in production, along with some newer ones designed by Probe. (See this article at VSE for a good overview of the panels and configurations produced by STS.) Like the original company, STS has never offered individual function modules, and as of 2021, custom-configured panels are no longer offered due to manufacturing and cost reasons.

STS has never had a Web site. The company can be contacted at its headquarters in Hartland, Wisconsin USA at +1 (262) 367-3030.
