On a polyphonic synth, a mode in which several voices in the synth are assigned to play a single note. On an analog polyphonic synth, the minor discrepencies in tuning and calibration between different voices usually results in a "heavy" or "massive" sound when all of the voices are layered on one note. With certain synths, unison mode is frequently used for bass lines.
